There's a "silent epidemic" dramatically affecting the lives of post-menopausal women in New Zealand and around the world. It's about time we started talking about it.
“Genitourinary menopause syndrome” refers to a collection of symptoms that affect the genitourinary system (the reproductive and urinary systems) during menopause. It’s often referred to as genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Menopause is a natural biological process that occurs in women, usually around their late 40s or early 50s, when their menstrual periods cease, marking the end of their reproductive years.
It’s estimated that more than 50% of women over the age of 55 suffer from one or more symptoms of GMS
Post menopause hormonal changes, particularly a decrease in estrogen levels, can lead to various symptoms affecting the genitourinary system.
These symptoms include:
- Vaginal dryness: Reduced estrogen levels can cause the vaginal tissues to become thinner, drier, and less elastic, leading to discomfort, itching, and pain during intercourse.
- Genital itching or burning: Dryness and thinning of the vaginal tissues can also result in itching or burning sensations in the genital area.
- Dyspareunia: Painful intercourse, often due to vaginal dryness and thinning tissues.
- Urinary symptoms: Changes in the urinary tract, such as increased frequency of urination, urgency, urinary incontinence, or recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), can occur due to the effects of estrogen deficiency on the urinary system.
- Recurrent urinary tract infections: Estrogen deficiency can increase the risk of UTIs by altering the vaginal pH and reducing the protective effect of vaginal bacteria.
Myrecil® is advanced biochemistry yet is created using a natural fermentation process similar to heritage probiotic foods like this kefir pictured above.
Invented in Aotearoa New Zealand using all-natural ingredients.
It’s a basic principle of ours to control every aspect of our manufacturing process to ensure the finished products not only pass our high standards, but that the ingredients are cruelty free, sustainably produced and Fair Trade.
As well as being invented here, many ingredients in Atopis have originated here in New Zealand, and every ingredient we use can be traced to source. We grow a number of our own plants, and for the other plants we work with the suppliers to ensure we can trace right back to origin. And of course we never, ever test on animals.
For each ingredient we have a certificate of analysis ensuring quality and safety of the ingredient. Each batch of cream is manufactured in a TGA, MEDSafe GMP (Good manufacturing Practice) certified facility and is fully tested to ensure the cream passes strict QA/QC standards. The testing includes ensuring no microbial contamination, no pesticides (there must be no detection) and no heavy metals (must be none detected). We also test to ensure Myrecil efficacy and the chemistry profile of each batch.
Our finished products routinely go through GMP stability testing to ensure a shelf life of 2-3 years. This testing includes regular testing of the chemistry profile and ensuring that there is no leaching of any form from the packaging into the cream.
So you can have peace of mind knowing that what you’re putting on your skin has been made with real care and ethical commitment. We wouldn’t do anything else because after all, we use Atopis too!
As well as being invented here, many ingredients in Atopis have originated in Aotearoa New Zealand too. And if an ingredient isn’t from here, it has been traced to source to ensure ethical and sustainable production..
