Weir Science is an innovative New Zealand R&D company founded by cell biologist Dr. Iona Weir, PhD.
Dr. Weir, a scientist for 34 years, is among the few women globally patenting her research. She earned her PhD at the Cancer Research labs of the University of Auckland, discovering that the fundamental cellular process of apoptosis in plants could be reversed, later applying this to human cancer and immune cells. This led her into fields like botanical drug discovery, immune modulation, and gut health. She served as Chief Scientific Officer developing an oral drug for eczema, breakthrough gut innovations like IBSacol, Phloe, and KiwiCrush, and collaborating with major multinationals like Nestle.
Exploring cell signaling, gut health, and immunology, she saw remarkable effects on the skin. This led her to develop her patented Myrecil Ingredient behind her Atopis range of scientific skin care and dermatology, followed by her new Myregyna® postmenopausal health system.
Following her time at the Ontario Cancer Research Institute in Canada in 1999, Iona returned to New Zealand to pursue her ground breaking research into cellular renewal systems.
