Actor (and Myregyna user) Robyn Malcolm and I sat down to chat through the most frequently asked questions customers ask about Myregyna®

The following tells the story of our conversation.

Dr Iona Weir, PhD, Cell biologist and inventor of Myregyna. Founder & CEO of Weir Science.

Robyn Malcolm: Ever since I went through menopause, I just have to pee all the time. Why do I have to pee all the time? What happens?

Iona Weir: Okay, so unfortunately, once we go through menopause we start to lose elasticity around the urethra in the vulva area. This means the urethra widens, so you’re more open to leakage, you’ve lost your muscle tone, you’re not holding it in so well. And you start to get the irritants into the bladder, and constant irritation.

Robyn Malcolm: So is this why, you know, running down hills, jumping up and down, starts to become difficult. In fact, you can’t do it. Why can’t I do that? Why can’t I jump up and down anymore?

Iona Weir: Because you’ve lost the muscle tone, you’ve lost the elasticity. So when you start walking, jumping, etc, it starts to put that sort of pressure on the pelvic floor, which gives you the feeling of needing to pee. So you’re walking around needing pads, finding
the closest toilet, and deciding that you can’t go to a concert after all.

Robyn Malcolm: Or if you do go to a concert, you have to know where the loo is.

Iona Weir: Yeah, and you lose your spot!

Robyn Malcolm: And you lose your spot, so you don’t even bother going. You just stay at home on the loo. By yourself, crying, peeing and alone!

Robyn Malcolm: So you’ve got the need to pee all the time. And then the other one which everybody talks about, is suddenly it dries up—it’s the Sahara desert down there! So what’s going on there?

Iona Weir: Well, technically, it’s known as vaginal atrophy.

Robyn Malcolm: Oh, God, vaginal atrophy. Really, my vagina has atrophied?! Okay, awesome. Explain to me, what is that?

Iona Weir: Basically, as you get a decrease in hormones, you then get the dryness and the thinning of the vaginal mucosa. You also unfortunately get a change in pH, the change in the color of the whole tissue. It starts to crack, and you lose the healthy blood flow which benefits your vaginal mucosa.

Robyn Malcolm: So there’s a chicken and egg thing there, right? The more sex I have, the healthier it is going to be down there. But if I’m atrophying, I’m not going to want to have sex. It’s about breaking that cycle,

Iona Weir: Yes. And also the vagina shrinks if you don’t use it. So welcome to menopause! Well, life after it …

Robyn Malcolm: Dear God …

Robyn Malcolm: Okay. Dr Weir, how does Myregyna work?

Iona Weir: So if we think of all the things we’ve discussed around vaginal atrophy and leakage.

Robyn Malcolm: So depressing!

Iona Weir: … then basically what you’d want is something that will support the elasticity of the skin, so you restore the plumpness and firmness of the area.

Robyn Malcolm: So this is basically anti-aging your vag. Because the language you’re using is what you hear with the creams women put on their faces.

Iona Weir: Yes. I’ve taken the 35 years of research that’s in my Atopis® skincare range for your face and body, and applied that to the vaginal area. It’s a breakthrough skin‑based approach to these “down under” issues we encounter after menopause.

Robyn Malcolm: So is Myregyna like a blinged‑up lube?

Iona Weir: No! It’s way more than a lube. It’s a double-action system using a Dietary Supplement and a Hydrating Cream. Also, the cream goes on the outside of the area.

Robyn Malcolm: I see. If I’m applying it to the outside, how is it having an impact on the inside? Is that because of the pill I’m taking?

Iona Weir: Yes. Because Myregyna Dietary Supplement is working from the inside, doing things like restoring your microbiome. Because as well as the active ingredient Myrecil®, it has four important probiotics in there, the ones that your vagina uses. Meanwhile Myregyna Hydrating cream is restoring the elasticity around the entrance of your urethra and your vagina—restoring that plumpness.

Robyn Malcolm: So Myregyna’s approach is from the outside‑in and from the inside‑out?

Iona Weir: Exactly. It’s both.

Robyn Malcolm: Okay, so I’m popping a pill and putting the cream on. How long is it going to take before I notice a difference?

Iona Weir: Well, if you think of your skin structure, it takes about two to three weeks for the new layer of skin to get through to the top. So we have is women are reporting back to us that within two to four weeks they are noticing a difference in what they were
feeling before.

Robyn Malcolm: Is it a continual progression?

Iona Weir: Yes, you’re plumping up the area and improving it over time

Robyn Malcolm: So theoretically, I would still be using it when I’m 90?

Iona Weir: Totally. We have women in their 90s using the cream.

Robyn Malcolm: That’s awesome. I love what that means, because it means that women in their 90s are wanting really healthy vaginas for all sorts of reasons.

Iona Weir: And to go to concerts!

Robyn Malcolm: Pogoing at concerts at the age of 90, That’s the life of a 90 year old!

Robyn Malcolm: Does Myregyna use hormones to do all this magical stuff?

Iona Weir: Absolutely no hormones are in Myregyna, so you can confidently use in conjunction with HRT, like you and I do
currently. But I also wanted to make sure that women who can’t use hormones, or don’t want to use hormones, have an alternative.

Robyn Malcolm: Yeah, and it’s been fantastic, one supports the other.

Robyn Malcolm: So where is the Myregyna made, and is it natural?

Iona Weir: So Myregyna, just like Atopis our skin care range, is totally made here in New Zealand, from New Zealand ingredients, it is 100% natural. That’s why we call it “the breakthrough from down under, for down under”. We basically source every ingredient. We trace it all the way back.

Robyn Malcolm: What are the ingredients? Tell me what the ingredients are.

Iona Weir: My patented biotechnology behind Myregyna is Myrecil®. I developed Myrecil through my research into cellular renewal processes in plants—I invented novel compounds that let us get similar effects with human skin cells. Myrecil uses plant cells such as pollen and germination nutrients like coconut water which we enzymatically hydrolyse. We then use medical grade hyaluronic acid to transport it to the skin. But Myrecil is not just about the ingredients—it’s about making them bioactive and bio‑available. If you just took the plant compounds and put them on human skin, they’re not going to work, because they’re not in the form that the human skin can use.

Robyn Malcolm: This feels a bit revolutionary to me. This is a whole other approach to the last third of our lives, right?

Iona Weir: Yes. The whole technology is about using what’s there in nature to produce what we need naturally to restore our bodies for the final third of our lives.

Robyn Malcolm: Because I wonder sometimes, when I hear that something’s natural, it must be weak. You know what I mean in skincare? If it’s all scientific‑y and chemical‑y and all the rest of it, then it must be really powerful. But what you’re saying is that nature’s the most powerful thing.

Iona Weir: What I’ve done is used nature’s own biochemical pathways and processes, like its enzymes. I could have got the same reactions with synthetic chemicals, sure. But instead I’ve produced a natural form of it without all the toxic, horrible things that you wouldn’t want in there.

Robyn Malcolm: So Myregyna is non‑toxic, natural—yet still powerful.

Iona Weir: Yes.

Robyn Malcolm: Iona, just quietly … my vagina and myself thank you!
